About

Established in 2014, the Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences, popularly known as GIMS Gadag, is a government medical college in Karnataka. It is affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru, and holds recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC), ensuring its curriculum and standards meet national benchmarks. As a government-funded institution, it is a sought-after choice for medical aspirants in the region. The flagship program at GIMS is the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). The institute has an annual intake of 150 students for this course. Admission is highly competitive and is based solely on the scores obtained in the NEET UG examination, with seat allocation managed through the counselling process conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). The annual tuition fee for the MBBS program under the government quota is quite affordable, typically around INR 60,000, making it an accessible option for many students. Unlike engineering colleges, medical institutions do not have a traditional placement process. Instead, after completing the 4.5-year academic term, all MBBS graduates are required to undergo a one-year compulsory rotating residential internship at the attached hospital. This internship guarantees hands-on clinical experience and includes a monthly stipend. Detailed statistics on the career paths chosen by the 2025 or 2026 graduating batches are not yet available. However, graduates typically proceed to either prepare for postgraduate entrance exams like NEET PG to pursue specializations or begin their careers as medical officers in government or private healthcare facilities.
