About

Established in 2019, Government Medical College, Karur is one of the newer government medical institutions in Tamil Nadu. It is affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, and holds recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC), assuring students of its adherence to quality medical education standards. As a recent addition, it is yet to feature in national rankings like NIRF, but its status as a government college makes it a significant choice for medical aspirants. The college primarily offers the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program, with an annual intake of 150 students. Admission is highly competitive and is based exclusively on the scores obtained in the NEET UG examination. Seat allocation is managed through the All India Quota (AIQ) and Tamil Nadu state counselling processes. A major attraction for students considering admissions for the 2025-2026 academic year is the highly subsidized fee structure. The annual tuition fee for the MBBS course under the government quota is approximately INR 13,610, making it an exceptionally affordable option. Regarding career outcomes, specific placement data for the 2025 or 2026 batches is not applicable in the traditional sense. After completing the 4.5-year academic program, all MBBS students are required to undergo a one-year compulsory rotatory residential internship (CRRI) at the affiliated hospital. This internship provides invaluable hands-on clinical experience and includes a government-stipulated stipend. Following the internship, graduates typically pursue postgraduate studies by appearing for exams like NEET-PG/NEXT or enter into medical practice and government health services.
