When you think of IIT Madras, you probably picture engineering, but its Department of Management Studies (DOMS) has carved a strong niche for itself. Established in 2004, DOMS leverages the analytical rigour of the IIT ecosystem to offer a unique B-school experience. Its quality is well-recognised, securing the 15th spot among management institutes in the 2023 NIRF rankings. The flagship offering at DOMS is its two-year full-time MBA program, for which admissions are primarily based on CAT scores, followed by a personal interview. Beyond the MBA, the department also offers an Executive MBA, a Tech MBA, and research programs like MS and Ph.D. For students targeting the main MBA program, the total academic fee is approximately INR 17 lakhs for the entire course, making it a relatively affordable option compared to other premier B-schools. The real test, of course, is placements, and DOMS consistently delivers strong results. The placement season for the 2022-24 batch concluded successfully, with students securing impressive offers. While the official final report for 2025 placements is awaited, the 2024 season saw the average salary package touch INR 20.19 LPA, with the highest package reaching INR 30.6 LPA. The median salary stood at a healthy INR 19.6 LPA. Major roles were offered in domains like Analytics, Consulting, General Management, and Finance, with top companies like McKinsey & Company, Accenture, Cisco, and Texas Instruments actively recruiting from the campus.
