Uttar Banga Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (UBKV), also known as North Bengal Agricultural University, is leading the way in advancing agricultural education. It offers a range of programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, focusing on key agricultural fields. Initially set up as a satellite campus by the West Bengal state government in 1979, the primary goal was to boost agricultural productivity in the six northern districts of West Bengal—Jalpaiguri, Malda, Darjeeling, Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur, and Coochbehar. The campus received recognition and support from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the National Agricultural Research Project (NARP) designated Pundibari as the headquarters for the Terai-agro climatic zone of West Bengal. To enhance horticultural facilities, the campus was transformed into a full-fledged university in 2000, thanks to the West Bengal act XX 2000. With its establishment, significant strides have been made in the production, productivity, and cropping patterns of agriculture and horticulture in North Bengal. The university launched a Department of Technology in the 2005-2006 academic session, offering a B.Tech degree in Agricultural Engineering, accredited by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). UBKV is recognized for its excellent education and proficient faculty in agriculture and horticulture. Its serene, green campus offers an ideal setting for educational pursuits. UBKV houses notable departments like the Faculty of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, and Faculty of Technology, each making a significant impact in higher education. The college library is well-equipped, boasting 22,564 volumes of books, along with 200 reports and 2,000 bound journals, effectively supporting students and researchers.
