Aliah University functions as an independent university under the Department of Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education, governed by the Bengal Government. Originally founded as Mohammedan College of Calcutta in 1780, it became a university in 2008 through the Aliah University Act (Act XXVII of 2007). Situated in New Town, Kolkata, the university covers 12 acres and is directed by the Government of Bengal. Aliah University has received accreditation from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), University Grants Commission (UGC), and National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), attaining a NAAC B+ grade in 2024. B.Tech is Aliah University's main program. Interested candidates should have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Math, maintaining at least 60% overall. Admissions are conducted through exams like JEE Main or WBJEE, while diploma holders aiming for second-year entry need to clear JELET. The JEE Main 2024 cutoff for the General Category ranges between 5153 and 15827, and the total fee for B.Tech is INR 54,150. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD courses across disciplines such as Engineering, Management, Law, Science, and others.
