Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), previously Andhra Pradesh Open University, is a state-run institution for distance learning located in Hyderabad, Telangana. Established in 1982, the university is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and holds a 'B++' grade accreditation from NAAC. It has a widespread network of 179 study centers which include 23 Regional Coordination Centers across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. BRAOU offers a diverse range of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, certificate, and research programs under the Faculties of Arts, Commerce, Education, Sciences, and Social Sciences. The university enrolls over one lakh students yearly. All its courses receive recognition from UGC and the Distance Education Bureau (DEB). Admissions to UG and PG programs, excluding MBA, are merit-based and depend on marks in qualifying exams. MBA admissions require scores from TS/AP ICET or the BRAOUMBA Entrance Test (BRAOUMBAET). Admission happens in two sessions: January and July. The entire admission process is online. BRAOU conducts entrance tests for B.Ed and PhD program admissions, while the rest are mostly merit-based. BRAOU also provides scholarships based on merit and need, supporting students from economically underprivileged backgrounds and minority communities through various government schemes. Students’ coursework often includes assignments, which contribute 20-30% towards their overall course marks.
