About

Government Sri Krishnarajendra Silver Jubilee Technological Institute, located in Bangalore and affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University in Belgaum, Karnataka, was founded in 1938. This esteemed institution owes its existence to statesmen Sir Mirza Ismail and Sir M. Visvesvarayya. They established it to mark the 25th anniversary of the notable reign of Nalwadi Krishnarajendra Wodeyar Bahadur, Maharaja of Mysore. As the first institution of its kind in South India, it was designed to provide highly trained professionals for various sectors of the textile industry. Managed by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Karnataka, the institute has grown immensely over the years. Originally offering a B.Sc. in Textiles in 1946, it transitioned to a B.Tech. in 1973, while its M.Tech. in Textiles began in 1970, followed by B.Tech. in Silk Technology in 1991. Since 2007-08, it has been recognized as a Ph.D. center for Textile Technology by Visvesvaraya Technological University. The institute boasts a vibrant alumni association, and the Textile Association (India) Karnataka Unit operates from here. The alumni network spans across various fields in India, including industry, research, and government. Celebrations like its Golden and Diamond Jubilees were marked by wide participation from alumni both nationwide and from overseas. Students are encouraged to engage in sports, cultural, and literary activities. The institute commemorates Engineer's Day on September 15 each year, which features a statue of Dr. M. Visvesvaraya, unveiled by the former Prime Minister, V.V. Giri. Under TEQIP-II, the college received initial funding of 2 crore to improve its educational quality. Facilities at the institute include a library with over 12,000 books and numerous journals. It also provides hostel accommodation for boys, while girls reside in the nearby Government Women's Polytechnic hostel.
