Established in 2005, the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) has been instrumental in delivering medical education to students from Agartala and across North East India. Affiliated with Tripura University, all the courses here are recognized by the Medical Council of India. AGMC provides both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in over 15 disciplines, selecting students based on their rankings in NEET UG and PG exams. Postgraduate studies are offered in various specializations. The college boasts modern infrastructure, complete with labs, dissection halls, lecture theatres, a central library, and intercom facilities. Final-year students get the opportunity to intern at the nearby GB Pant hospital. AGMC, spread over a 42-acre campus, is well-equipped with facilities like an auditorium, an ATM, hostels for boys, a canteen, and a computer lab. The college is committed to a safe and supportive learning environment, ensuring gender safety via a dedicated Sexual Harassment Committee. For the 2019-20 session, the intake was 129 for MBBS and 75 for PG courses, with 96 UG seats reserved for Tripura students, 19 filled by Central Government nominees, and 10 by nominees from North Eastern states. Courses include departments such as Anaesthesiology, Anatomy, and Biochemistry, led by a seasoned faculty. Admission to AGMC is through NEET exams; MBBS takes 5.5 years, with eligibility depending on passing 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and a valid NEET score. While AGMC doesn't offer college-specific scholarships, students can apply for various state and central government scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal. This government-backed college primarily supports SC, ST, and OBC category students with specific post-matric scholarship schemes from the state government.
