National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Kolkata, set up in 1995, is one of the five oldest centres within the NIFT network. It has gained significant recognition, securing the 6th position in the Fashion Technology category according to The Week's 2024 rankings. In the same year, India Today placed it 7th for Fashion Design. NIFT Kolkata provides a variety of programs, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and certification courses. Additionally, it offers Continuing Education (CE) and Outreach programs. Among its offerings, the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program stands out as its flagship. The fee for the first-year B.Des program in 2025 is INR 3.41 lakhs. To gain admission, candidates must have passed their 10+2 with a minimum of 50% marks and must possess a valid NIFTEE score, followed by group discussions and personal interviews. Admissions at NIFT Kolkata are conducted through an entrance exam. The application process is online, and the selection involves a series of assessments including the General Ability Test (GAT) and the Creative Ability Test (CAT), concluded by a Personal Interview, collectively referred to as NIFTEE.
